Boosting the school’s sporting provision

Collinson Construction brought this £2.14m project to life for St John’s Marlborough, a mixed secondary school with academy status in Wiltshire.

Delivered by Collinson’s traditional division, the state-of-the-art development has boosted physical activity facilities at the school, while also helping it cater for a growing student population.

The range of high specification indoor and outdoor spaces has ensured the school’s students and staff, as well as the wider Marlborough community including local clubs, have access to a wider range of recreational spaces.

A partnership effort

Working together with Edmond Shipway and NVB Architects, Collinson Construction delivered the scheme in just eight months.

With a footprint of 690m2, the new sports hall has transformed a previously unused space at the front of the school which had been earmarked for development for many years.

A Mayoral visit

Representatives Collinson joined together with St John’s staff, students, governors, St John’s Foundation Trust, Excalibur Academies Trust and the Mayor of Marlborough for an opening ceremony to mark the completion of the scheme.

Guests were given a tour of the new development, and a group of students demonstrated their skills on the courts.

As well as outstanding academic success, St John’s now stands as a school with truly outstanding facilities.

"Students and local sport clubs now have all-year access to a games and PE facility that truly enhances the provision of the activity based curriculum. I have been proud to be associated with such an exciting project.”

A key vision for this project has been about creating first impressions; for our visitors, and for those who learn or work at St John’s and Excalibur. It has been about making everyone feel they are in a place that gives them the very best life chances academically, but also recognises that sport, fitness and wellbeing are equally important.

“The levels of support and the collective community effort put into this project have enabled us to achieve that vision, and it is now our responsibility to ensure that this first impression remains a reality, particularly for the young people we are here to serve”.
