This two-storey, multi-use facility includes a reception area, fitness suite, changing facilities, fencing piste, viewing gallery, a sedum roof and a living wall.
Being situated in a green belt space, securing planning consent was a specific challenge for our client. There was also BREEAM rating to take into account, which was to be Excellent.
Following a tender process, we were successful in being selected to carry out the Main Contractor works for Badminton School.
Working alongside the client’s agent, we quickly secured planning approval and also looked into the planning conditions which we were responsible for.
Our team started on site, working closely with our client to ensure the site set-up and logistics were carefully considered due to the live surroundings and also site location.
Regular client meetings were held to ensure all parties were satisfied with the arrangements and also to discuss any amendments required due to the ever-changing live environment.
Being a Considerate Constructor, the local community is a key focus for our project team as well as our site team.
We therefore engaged with local residents on a regular basis via newsletter drops and also comment boxes. While working on site, we encouraged local residents and students to visit to take part in a supervised tour.
We also arranged for the students of Badminton School to regularly attend site for a walk round with our site manager.
Our client commented on how much the pupils enjoyed these visits and were always eager to come and check on the progress being made. We also ran poster competitions for the younger students to engage them further with the project.
Upon completion of the project our team was invited to the grand opening of the facility which our client was keen to exhibit.
The handover of the project went incredibly smoothly and to programme. The students were keen to access the state-of-the-art facility as soon as possible, as were their teachers. Upon completion of the project the building was awarded the BREEAM Excellent certificate.
As well as being widely used by the students and teachers of the school, the facility is also rented out to the local community which is a huge benefit to local residents and community groups alike.
"It will also unlock the campus and enable other departments to expand and thrive over the coming years."
