The Role

We’re looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our fantastic team.

At Collinson Construction, we take projects from concept to handover. As part of our pre-construction team, you’ll be working on small-to-medium sized projects ranging from £500k to £5m.

Your primary focus will be the design and delivery of sports halls and leisure facilities, with the team looking into other sectors in the coming year.

In your new role, you will:

  • Engage with the supply chain
  • Produce and send enquiries to Sub-Contractors inviting them to tender
  • Receive and analyse quotations, liaising with Contracts Managers and Site Agents regarding price, proven history, availability etc
  • Notify in writing both successful and unsuccessful Sub-Contractors in a timely manner
  • Produce and process formal Sub-Contract documents and certify interim and final payments and final Sub-Contract accounts for sign off by Senior Quantity Surveyor
  • Produce bill of quantity/activity schedule for payment purposes
  • Produce cash flow forecasts for internal and client purposes
  • Monitor and control income and expenditure on contracts e.g. interim/final applications for payment/final accounts/payments for late monies etc., liaising where necessary with the relevant people (for example, engineers and clients)
  • Produce relevant monthly reports for the Senior Quantity Surveyor such as cost and value comparisons, turnover forecasts etc. ensuring information is complete and accurate
  • Contribute to and attend financial and progress meetings with the client engineers and Sub-Contractors as required
  • Provide advice and support to the site team in order to optimise the use of contract resources
  • Provide support for the Managing Surveyor in terms of data input etc
  • Give feedback to Estimators and Quantity Surveyors with regard to contract pricing, projected profit/loss, pricing omissions etc

About You

You’ll have:

  • Good sense of humour
  • Patience to learn
  • Ability to use a range of IT packages including Microsoft Office and bespoke packages
  • Good relationship building skills
  • Self-motivation and a proactive approach
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of the Construction process
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Negotiation skills and the ability to apply those skills internally, externally, and with our supply chain
  • Positive attitude at all times and the ability to integrate with and play an active part in the Construction Team
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise to meet deadlines
  • The desire to pursue personal development and maintain up-to-date knowledge

Your Competencies and Experience

It would be great if you have:

  • A full driving licence
  • Administration experience
  • Construction industry experience (1 year)
  • Relatively close proximity to the office
